Fred Taylor, a longtime NFL running back who played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, recently achieved a significant milestone by earning his college degree from the University of Florida. At 48 years old, Taylor had already enjoyed a successful 13-year career in the NFL, earning nearly $41 million and becoming a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Although there was no pressing need for Taylor to complete his college education, he made a promise to himself that he was determined to fulfill. After finishing his final class for a sociology degree, Taylor walked across the stage at Florida’s commencement ceremony more than 26 years after leaving the university to pursue his NFL dreams. The decision to return to school and earn his degree was deeply personal for Taylor. Before her passing last year, his grandmother, who had raised him, was suffering from dementia and other health issues. In her final days, Taylor made a promise to her that he would finish his education. Determined to keep his word, he enrolled in the necessary course without telling anyone, including his wife.
