Racing into History: Cape Town Aerial Photographer Breaks Battery-Powered Quadcopter Speed Record with Peregreen 2

Quadcopter Sets New Guinness World Record for Fastest Speed

Last year, a mechanical engineer set a Guinness World Record for the fastest battery-powered RC quadcopter, reaching speeds of 224 mph. This record has now been surpassed by a custom-made drone designed by Luke Bell, an aerial videographer and photographer from Cape Town, South Africa. Bell’s quadcopter, named Peregreen, clocked in at an average speed of 247 mph over 100 m in both directions, beating the previous record.

Bell’s father, Mike Bell, helped build the Peregreen last year and was called upon to assist in creating a new version called the Peregreen 2. The build process for the new quadcopter was filled with technical issues and fires, leading to flight instability. This prompted a complete redesign of the drone, followed by numerous aero tests and a successful fire-free test flight.

The final build of the Peregreen 2 includes a carbon-fiber frame, 3D-printed outer shell/tail, APC 7x11E props, T-Motor Velox 3115 900KV motors, APD 120A 12S ESCs, two 1,800-mAh LiPo battery packs, a Matek F405-HDTE flight controller
