At Heathrow Airport in London, two planes collided on the ground, one from British Airways and the other from Virgin Atlantic. Fortunately, both aircraft only sustained minor damage and there were no injuries or delays as a result of the incident. The collision occurred when Virgin Atlantic’s Boeing 787-9 was being towed from a terminal to another part of the airport and hit the wing of the British Airways plane, which had 121 people on board and was scheduled to depart for Accra, Ghana.
Virgin Atlantic confirmed that there were no passengers on board their aircraft during the collision. The airline stated that they were carrying out maintenance checks on their aircraft, which had been taken out of service due to the incident. A spokesperson for British Airways stated that one of their planes was involved in a collision while stationary at Heathrow and that another plane would be made available to passengers with a delayed takeoff time.
An airport spokesperson confirmed the incident and stated that emergency services were working with airline partners to investigate the circumstances of the accident. The Metropolitan Police also announced their support for the investigation. Despite this unfortunate incident, no passengers were injured, and airport operations were not expected to be impacted significantly. The affected aircraft are currently being evaluated and necessary precautions are being taken to ensure everyone’s safety.
