On Monday, the US, Mexico and Canada were able to witness a total solar eclipse. The rare astronomical event was captured in images by Andrew Harnik/Getty Images as it occurred above the Statue of Freedom atop the dome of the US Capitol.
Large crowds gathered to see the unique celestial event, with the sun’s corona visible during the totality phase. The path of totality for the 2024 total solar eclipse stretched from Texas to Vermont, and people all across North America came together to witness this once-in-a-lifetime event. Some used eclipse glasses while others got creative with unconventional items like colanders to view this amazing phenomenon.
