Record-breaking Brandon Jones snags pole at Martinsville but faces setback with brake issue; NASCAR Cup teams gear up for NOCO 400

Brandon Jones secures pole position in Xfinity Martinsville starting lineup

On Saturday night, Brandon Jones secured the pole position for the Xfinity race at Martinsville Speedway with a lap of 96.151 mph, tying the track record set by Ty Gibbs in 2022. This marks Jones’s ninth career pole win and his first since 2022. However, just hours before the race, Jones’s team discovered a hairline crack in the brake rotor, leading him to anticipate starting at the rear of the field.

Meanwhile, NASCAR Cup teams are gearing up for the NOCO 400 at Martinsville Speedway on Sunday afternoon. Chandler Smith, who leads the Xfinity point standings, was unable to participate in qualifying due to a brake issue that caused him to hit the wall during practice. Stewart-Haas Racing will be looking to capitalize on this opportunity presented at Martinsville Speedway.

In second place for Saturday’s starting lineup was Cole Custer with a lap of 95.845 mph, followed by Sheldon Creed (95.840 mph), Jeb Burton (95.665 mph), and Justin Allgaier (95.656 mph). Carson Kvapil made his Xfinity debut for JR Motorsports and qualified 12th with a lap of 95.280 mph.

The green flag for the Xfinity race will wave at 7:47 p.m. ET on Saturday night, with FS1 providing coverage
