Reduced Connections, Expanded Capacity: Renfe’s Adjustments to Madrid-Valencia AVE Services

Renfe to cut 4 daily Valencia-Madrid trains during Chamartín station works

Renfe has announced that it will be reducing four daily connections between Madrid and Valencia starting on April 8th, with the reduction continuing through July. This reduction, which includes two connections in each direction, is due to the expansion works being carried out at the Madrid Chamartín station by Adif. Despite this decrease, Renfe will still maintain 95% of available seats on high-speed services connecting both cities.

The goal of these expansion works is to double the capacity of the Chamartín station for high-speed trains and long-distance services. As a result of these improvements, a new daily AVE connection between Valencia and León will be introduced, with stops in Segovia, Valladolid, and Palencia. The ongoing improvements at the Chamartín station will require adjustments to several tracks at the Madrid terminal and impact operational capacity.

To optimize infrastructure capacity and increase seat availability on some routes, Renfe plans to put new S106 trains into circulation once they are delivered by Talgo. These improvements at the Chamartín station will result in a more efficient and expanded rail service between Madrid and Valencia in the future.

Overall, this reorganization of train services connecting both cities aims to improve efficiency and increase capacity for high-speed trains and long-distance services.
