The Renner Behavioral Health Program has been officially launched in Moundsville with a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house. The clinic is an outpatient behavioral health facility that opened about a month ago in partnership with the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute. The Marshall County Chamber of Commerce hosted the event, marking the culmination of efforts to bring the clinic to the community.
The program was made possible in part by a $2.25 million grant from the Renner Foundation, founded by Dr. R. Richard Renner of Hundred and his wife Jennie Steindorf Renner of Wheeling. Some of the grant funds were used to renovate the space for the new clinic, which aims to address the pressing issue of behavioral health in West Virginia and beyond.
During the ceremony, Douglass Harrison, president and CEO of WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital, highlighted the significant need for behavioral health services in the region. He emphasized the importance of tackling stigma surrounding mental health and ensuring that individuals receive support they require. WVU Medicine hopes that physicians will facilitate referrals for patients seeking mental health services, creating a seamless transition to care at Renner Behavioral Health Program.
Marshall County Commission President Mike Ferro expressed pride in having WVU Medicine expand its services in their community. He emphasized recognizing mental health on par with physical health and thanked those who contributed to bringing this valuable resource to Moundsville.
