Spotify has recently enhanced its music streaming platform with artificial intelligence (AI) tools to help premium subscription users create playlists and discover new songs and artists. The Playlist tool is a new addition to Spotify’s platform, currently in beta for Premium users in the UK and Australia on both iOS and Android. With this tool, users can now open a chat within their library and write descriptions of the music they want to listen to, generating a customized playlist based on their request.
Spotify’s generative AI tool within Playlist supports various descriptions such as ‘relaxing music to help me through allergy season’ or ‘a playlist that makes me feel like the main character’, using references to places, animals, activities, movie characters, colors, and emojis. The company notes that the most successful playlists are generated with prompts containing a mix of genres, moods, artists, or decades. Spotify began working on this tool at the end of last year, introducing AI-based features like a DJ tool that recommends and comments on songs.
