Revolutionizing Tax Declaration: Over 300,000 Already Utilizing Phone Option and Director General’s Satisfaction with Simple Declarations

The tax declaration by phone has been deemed a success, with over 300,000 taxpayers already taking advantage of this option. This includes the Minister of Public Accounts, Thomas Cazenave. The Director General of the DGFiP, Amélie Verdier, expressed satisfaction with the positive response to this new method, particularly for simple declarations.

The issues faced with the declaration of real estate last year led to confusion among taxpayers. Verdier mentioned that the tax administration is better equipped this year and emphasized the importance of contacting the tax authorities via email, telephone, or in person for any doubts or questions. She also highlighted the necessity of declaring income from rental services like Airbnb, even if it is not pre-filled in the declaration form.

Verdier noted that there is a fine of 150 euros per undeclared premise but did not provide clarity on whether it would be enforced this year. She emphasized that with the expansion of local public services such as France Services houses, there are now more points of contact available to taxpayers for assistance. The administration is focused on providing accurate information and support to taxpayers to ensure confidence in the tax declaration process.

Regarding the gap between estimated and actual revenues in 2023 which contributed to a deficit reaching 5.5% of GDP, Verdier stated that the administration is still analyzing reasons behind this discrepancy. Factors such as a slowdown in inflation affecting VAT collection have been attributed to this shortfall. The tax declaration campaign will end between May 21 and June 6 depending on method and department of residence. Taxpayers are encouraged to take advantage of various contact points available for any assistance needed during declaration process.

Overall, Verdier expressed her commitment towards providing smooth and efficient services through various channels while ensuring compliance with legal requirements for accurate revenue collection.
