Ricky Ponting Urges Inclusion of Rishabh Pant in T20 World Cup Squad, Shares Insights on Batting Anchor Role and Impact Player Concept

Ricky Ponting believes Rishabh Pant should fly to USA for T20 World Cup, according to IPL-17

According to Ricky Ponting, head coach of the Delhi Capitals, Rishabh Pant should be included in the squad for the T20 World Cup in the USA. He believes that Pant’s skills and abilities make him a valuable asset to the team and can have a significant impact on games for India.

Ponting stated that Pant is close to full fitness, runs well between wickets, keeps well, and displays good hand-eye coordination. Moreover, he has a smile on his face after going through a tough time following an accident. This shows that Pant is recovering well and is ready to contribute to the team’s success in the tournament.

Regarding the role of a batting anchor in T20 cricket, Ponting emphasized the need for players who can adapt and adjust when required. He mentioned that having aggressive players in the team is essential as they can help pull the reins in if the team loses early wickets. Additionally, he highlighted that adaptable batsmen who can adjust their game based on the situation are crucial to success in this format of cricket.

On another matter, Ponting expressed his preference for keeping the Impact Player concept limited to domestic leagues rather than incorporating it into international cricket. He explained that managing players effectively and ensuring that they remain strong throughout a World Cup scenario are key to winning internationally. In his view, having a strong squad of 11 or 15 players is critical in such scenarios.
