Rockies Win Thrilling 10-Inning Game Against Mariners, But Controversial Fan Interference Call Shrouds Final Moments

Rockies come close to losing as fan interference negates potential walk-off homer

The Rockies emerged victorious from their Sunday doubleheader with the Seattle Mariners, winning 2-1 in 10 innings. However, controversy surrounded a fan interference call that nullified a potential walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

With the game tied 0-0, Rockies catcher Jacob Stallings hit a deep ball to left field off Mariners reliever Ryne Stanek. Seattle left fielder Dylan Moore attempted to make a play at the wall, but a fan reached out and obstructed his attempt to catch the ball. Despite the fan interference, the hit was ruled a double and the game continued.

After a review, umpires determined that the fan had interfered with Moore’s catch attempt, resulting in Stallings being called out to end the ninth inning. The Rockies eventually went on to win the game, with Seattle taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the 10th only for the Rockies to respond and score two runs for victory.
