Russian Terrorism Warning: From Iran to Krasnogorsk and Beyond

Moscow alerted by Tehran to terrorism threat.

Recently, Moscow received a warning from Tehran about the potential for a large-scale terrorist operation on Russian soil. This information came just days before the tragic attack on the Crocus City Hall concert hall in Krasnogorsk on March 22, which marked one of Russia’s most significant recent terrorist incidents. According to three sources familiar with the situation, Tehran provided Moscow with this information during interrogations of individuals arrested in Iran for suspected involvement in bombings.

While Russian authorities have not officially commented on the possible involvement of “Islamic State” in the attacks, they have suggested that Ukraine may be involved. However, Kiev strongly denies this claim. Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Kremlin, stated that he was not aware of any warnings from Iran regarding the attack.

It is worth noting that the US and its allies had previously warned of potential terrorist attacks in major Russian cities, coinciding with concert events. Despite being in hostile relations with Iran, the US passed on information about the attack’s preparation to Russian Federal Security Services. However, this information was described as “general and not detailed.”
