Russian-Ukrainian Drone War: Tensions Escalate with Strikes on Energy and Industrial Facilities

Refinery in Russia on fire after Ukrainian drone attack

Recently, Russian forces have been attacking energy installations in Ukraine, prompting the country to adopt a similar strategy. This has resulted in drone attacks on oil refineries in Voronezh, Russia and on oil and energy installations in two districts of Smolensk region. According to regional governor Vasily Anokhine, these attacks occurred approximately 400 km from the Ukrainian borders.

On the Voronezh side, a fire broke out at a refinery while air defense forces reportedly shot down four drones. Additionally, an electromechanical factory was bombed two days prior. Meanwhile, Ukrainian drones also attacked oil refineries in the Smolensk region and Voronezh as well as a factory producing chassis for military equipment.

In the Smolensk region, fires erupted at fuel and energy facilities in two districts after a drone attack. Residents reported that an oil depot was also on fire but the exact extent of the damage is still unknown. Last night, drones attacked Lipetsk tractor factory with local authorities stating that they were shot down. However, residents reported multiple explosions in the city’s industrial zone. The Lipetsk Tractor Plant has been part of the Tractor Plants machine-building group since 2004 and produces chassis for military vehicles.
