Salem Girls Take Home Victories in Three Events | Local Updates on News, Sports, and Employment

The 31st annual F.E. Cope Invitational on Thursday saw Salem senior Kaylee Carlisle emerge as the winner of the discus event, showcasing her skills and taking home the victory. She also placed third in the shot put, demonstrating her versatility as an athlete. The Salem girls had a strong showing overall, winning three events at the meet.

Junior Maggie Hopple had a standout performance, winning the 800-meter run and being part of the winning 3200 relay team along with Laura Hovorka, Maggie Hall, and Emily Sinsley. The Salem girls team had previously won the event for the past four years, showcasing their consistent excellence in track and field.

The Wadsworth girls team emerged victorious with 116 points, with Salem closely behind with 110 points. On the boys’ side, Wadsworth took home the win with 104 points, surpassing Austintown Fitch who finished with 82 points.

Maplewood senior Caleigh Richards successfully defended her title in the 1600 run, while Maggie Hall and Salem senior Megan Stafford also had strong showings in the event. Salem senior Will Madison was the top area boy, finishing second in the 1600 run by a narrow margin.

Overall, it was a competitive and exciting meet, with athletes from different schools showcasing their talent and determination. The F.E. Cope Invitational provided a platform for these athletes to excel and demonstrate their skills in various track and field events.
