Sara Lopez: From World Cup Victories to Shifting Priorities and Sights

Lopez prepares to defend eighth World Cup title – What is the next challenge?

As the reigning eight-time Hyundai Archery World Cup Champion, Lopez has nothing to lose. During her title bout at the last Hyundai Archery World Cup Final, she remained calm and focused even when trailing Tanja Gellenthien. The pressure was on her opponent, and it resulted in Sara’s eighth circuit win. Lopez’s competition record is unmatched and may stand for a long time.

Her success in the sport has already made strides in shifting attitudes towards archery and women in sports in Colombia. Lopez’s goals now include changing perceptions of her country, women in sports, and archery in Colombia. Engaged to Jean Pizarro, another archer from Puerto Rico, her priorities are shifting as well.

Lopez plans to spend more time with Pizarro in Puerto Rico despite mostly training in Colombia. She is open to new competition opportunities, whether in the US or different archery disciplines. Currently focused on organizing their wedding, Lopez is looking forward to seeing what the future holds after enjoying the process.

Returning to the international arena this week for the Pan American Championships in Medellin, Lopez is eager to compete and continue enjoying herself in the sport she loves.
