Savor the Culturally Rich Experience of Tchia on Nintendo Switch: A Coming-of-Age Adventure in the Heart of New Caledonia

I’m thrilled – my top indie open-world game of 2023 is coming to the Switch in June!

The upcoming release of Tchia on Nintendo Switch is set to captivate audiences once again, as the game was initially launched on PlayStation and PC last year. During the Triple-i Initiative 2024 indie showcase, Nintendo unveiled a release date trailer, prompting me to revisit the game on Switch.

Tchia is an open-world indie game that boasts smooth and vibrant visuals that I remember fondly from the PC version. The protagonist glides through the air with a Zelda-style glider, solves puzzles, and transforms into various animals to explore the map. If you’re not familiar with Tchia, you’re not alone – it was overshadowed by major releases like Hogwarts Legacy, Diablo 4, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Starfield. However, if you enjoy indie games that immerse you in culturally rich worlds and stories, I highly recommend giving Tchia a try.

The open-world exploration in Tchia evokes a sense of wonder and excitement similar to traveling to a foreign country, which is intentional. Inspired by New Caledonia and the culture of its indigenous Melanesian people called Kanaks, Tchia provides insight into this foreign culture through music, languages, folklore, traditions and food. Exploring the world of Tchia feels rewarding as it adds depth to your understanding of this new world through inventive minigames and sidequests. Additionally, the heartfelt coming-of-age story of the main character further enhances the gameplay experience making it unique and engaging.
