Scarlett Johansson joins Gareth Edwards-directed Jurassic Park reboot at Universal after successful stint as Black Widow in Marvel movies.

Universal Studios in Discussions with Scarlett Johansson for Role in Gareth Edwards’ ‘Jurassic World’ Film

Scarlett Johansson, a two-time Oscar nominee, is currently in talks to join the Gareth Edwards-directed reboot of Jurassic Park at Universal. After her successful run as Black Widow in the Marvel movies, Johansson is now looking to be a part of another major movie franchise. This comes after she sued Disney over the 2021 release of Black Widow, which was made available on Disney+ at the same time as the theatrical release, causing a decrease in box office revenue. However, the lawsuit was ultimately settled between both parties.

The Jurassic World project is fast-tracking with a scheduled release date of July 2, 2025. David Koepp is penning the latest iteration of the film. The new movie will be a fresh take on the Jurassic era, with cast members from the previous Jurassic World movies not expected to return.

Jurassic World will be executive produced by Steven Spielberg through Amblin Entertainment, with Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley producing through Kennedy-Marshall. The Jurassic Park franchise, which is celebrating its 30-year anniversary, has grossed $1.67 billion at the global box office. The first movie was followed by two sequels, and then the franchise was revived in 2015 with Jurassic World.

In addition to her work on blockbuster movies, Scarlett Johansson has received critical acclaim for her roles in films like Marriage Story and JoJo Rabbit where she earned Oscar nominations. The news about Scarlett Johansson potentially joining Jurassic World was first reported by InSneider.
