Scarlett Johansson Returns to Franchises with New Jurassic World Movie Set for Release in 2025

Scarlett Johansson Being Considered for Starring Role in Upcoming ‘Jurassic World’ Sequel

Scarlett Johansson recently attended the June 13 premiere of ‘Asteroid City’ in NYC. The actor is currently in negotiations to join the cast of Universal’s upcoming new Jurassic World movie.

Universal has set a release date of July 2, 2025 for the film and is moving fast on its production. Gareth Edwards has been selected to direct the new Jurassic World movie, which features a script written by David Koepp, who previously worked on Jurassic Park. Edwards replaced David Leitch as director after Leitch left the project shortly after joining.

Scarlett Johansson is returning to the world of franchises after her role as Black Widow in various Marvel Studios films. Despite her success in the superhero genre, she has been able to establish herself in other projects as well. Johansson has received two Oscar nominations for her work in Marriage Story and JoJo Rabbit. She also has voice role in the upcoming animated feature Transformers One and is set to star alongside Channing Tatum in a big-budget Apple film releasing this year.

The latest Jurassic World film is part of a franchise that began with Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park in 1993, based on Michael Crichton’s novel. The original film was followed by a sequel, The Lost World (1997), directed by Spielberg, and Jurassic Park III (2001) directed by Joe Johnston. The trilogy was revived with Jurassic World in 2015, which grossed $1.67 billion and led to sequels Fallen Kingdom (2018) and Dominion (2022). Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard were the leads in the trilogy overseen by filmmaker Colin Trevorrow.
