School Bond Proposals in North Texas: A Mixed Success Story

North Texas voters support school upgrades but reject sports bond funding

This weekend, North Texas voters approved millions of dollars in school bond proposals during the municipal elections. While larger requests for things like sports stadiums were not as successful, bonds for safety and technology upgrades seemed to have more support.

In Anna ISD, a $100 million bond proposal for a new stadium was rejected by 57% of voters. This was the second time the proposal had been turned down, as it was also part of the 2022 bond package. In Argyle, two out of three proposals, including funding for a baseball-softball complex and new schools, were not approved. However, $6.5 million for technology upgrades did receive support from voters.

Granbury ISD saw 82% of voters reject a proposal for $161.5 million for new schools and improvements. Mansfield ISD had the highest total among North Texas districts, with $777 million in proposals. Two of these proposals were approved, while three – totaling over $188 million – were rejected by voters.

Lewisville voters approved a bond package worth over $100 million for sports complex improvements, including maintenance and repairs at two swim centers and high school sports stadiums in the district. Other North Texas districts that saw approval for all bond proposals include Castleberry, Cedar Hill, Everman, Grapevine-Colleyville
