Gary Cohen to inspire Seton Hall graduates as commencement speaker

Gary Cohen, a veteran announcer for the New York Mets, has been selected to deliver the commencement address at Seton Hall University’s graduation on May 21 at the Prudential Center in Newark. With 36 years of experience with the Mets, Cohen is known for his excellent play-by-play commentary and has received numerous accolades for his work, including being honored with the Willie, Mickey and the Duke Award by the New York Chapter Baseball Writers’ Association of America in 2022.

In addition to his work with the Mets, Cohen has covered games for the New York Rangers and Seton Hall basketball. Prior to joining the Mets, he announced minor league baseball for various teams and also worked as a broadcaster for college basketball and football games. Cohen holds a degree in political science from Columbia University.

Sister Raffaella Petrini, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist and the secretary-general of the Governorate of Vatican City State, will also be receiving an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters at the graduation ceremony. Appointed by Pope Francis in 2021, Sister Petrini is a native of Rome and holds degrees from several prestigious universities. She is an associate professor of Welfare Economics at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas. Sister Petrini will offer brief remarks at the commencement ceremony.
