Shakira Reveals Her Meticulous Attention to Detail and Tales of Expensive Props in ‘Hot Ones’ Interview

Shakira Admits to Financial Loss on Debut World Tour Due to $1 Million Cobra Incident

Shakira is known for her meticulous attention to detail when it comes to the production elements of her tours and performances. During a recent interview on Hot Ones with Sean Evans, she revealed that this attention to detail has sometimes cost her money. For instance, during her 2002 Tour of the Mongoose, she lost money due to a giant cobra background element used at the beginning of her shows. The cobra prop cost $1 million to produce, making it expensive to take on the road despite the tour being a success with sold-out shows everywhere.

The Tour of the Mongoose was Shakira’s third-ever tour, celebrating the release of her first English album, Laundry Service. Some of the songs she performed during the tour included hits like “Whenever, Wherever,” “The One,” and “Ciega, Sordomuda.” Despite losing money on the cobra prop, Shakira’s passion for performing shone through during every show.

During the interview, Shakira also mentioned that she is a huge fan of Family Guy and had reached out to its creator, Seth MacFarlane, to help translate her 2009 song “Loba” into English for its version, “She Wolf.” However, she ended up writing the English lyrics herself after finding that MacFarlane’s translation didn’t capture what she wanted to convey in the song. She believes that when it comes to art and creativity, there’s nothing more important than staying true to your vision.

In addition to her interview and new album release announcement; Shakira also recently released Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran featuring collaborations with artists like Cardi B
