Small Business Boost: Deputy Administrator Dilawar Syed Tours Rapid City, Emphasizing Equity for Rural Communities

U.S. Small Business Administration works towards achieving equity within small businesses

Dilawar Syed, the Deputy Administrator of the US Small Business Administration, kicked off his nationwide tour in Rapid City, South Dakota. Syed highlighted the importance of supporting small businesses in rural communities, emphasizing that these areas are often overlooked in terms of investment and resources. He stressed the need for equity across all regions, both rural and metro, and the significance of intentional efforts to bridge the gap between them.

Syed acknowledged that there is still much work to be done in closing the divides that exist within the country. Despite the challenges faced by many communities, he emphasized the resilience and determination of small business owners who strive to succeed against historic and systemic obstacles.

Through legislation such as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which is helping to provide access to affordable internet for thousands of households and businesses in South Dakota, Syed mentioned that a key step in addressing these disparities is through targeted efforts towards rural areas. However, he also recognized that more needs to be done to ensure that everyone has access to opportunities for growth and success.

As part of his role, Syed travels to rural areas to meet with individuals and businesses, gaining a firsthand understanding of their specific needs and challenges they face. These interactions serve as a reminder of the importance of ensuring that everyone has equal access to resources and opportunities for growth. By investing in these communities and supporting small businesses in rural areas, Syed believes that progress can be made towards achieving greater equity and economic development for all individuals and regions across the country.
