State Officials Visit New Cumberland for Small Business Week

Pennsylvania officials recently took a tour of downtown New Cumberland to promote Small Business Week from April 28 to May 4. During the tour, Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary Rick Siger, New Cumberland Mayor Joan Erney, and other local officials visited several businesses in the West Shore borough such as the West Shore Theater, Hanna’s Ice Cream, Oxford Hall Celtic Gift Shop and Cafe, Semoff’s Barber Shop, and iDesign Plastics.

Mayor Erney expressed her gratitude for the administration’s focus on small businesses and highlighted the importance of having a vibrant and diverse business community in New Cumberland. The President of the New Cumberland Borough Council, Don Kibler, emphasized the support that his town has received from DCED in recent years and its positive impact on the community.

Secretary Siger’s tour showcased New Cumberland’s commitment to supporting small businesses and improving its community. Governor Josh Shapiro has proposed a $25 million increase in the Main Street Matters program for his budget for 2024-25. This program is expected to benefit commercial corridors across Pennsylvania. State officials plan to visit other counties such as Northampton, Venango, Delaware, Luzerne, and Somerset during Small Business Week to promote small businesses in those areas.
