Sophomore Kellan Boylan and Rytis Petraitis Announce Transfers to Lipscomb and California, Respectively: Inside the Trend of Transferring Elite Cadet Athletes from Air Force

Air Force standout sophomore Kellan Boylan transfers from Falcons to Lipscomb | Sports

On Saturday, Air Force faced its second departure from its 2023-24 roster as sophomore starter Kellan Boylan announced his transfer to Lipscomb University. Boylan, who played in 30 games for the Falcons last season and averaged 7.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game, had a standout performance against Wyoming where he scored 32 points on nine 3-pointers and reached double figures in eight games, including three times in Mountain West play.

After appearing in only six games during his freshman year, Boylan’s strong season was marked by his commitment to the team despite the challenges they faced throughout the campaign. The Bisons in Nashville, Tennessee compete in the Atlantic Sun Conference and finished with a record of 20-12 in 2023-24 before reaching their first NCAA Tournament in 2018. Boylan’s transfer comes after fellow sophomore Rytis Petraitis also announced his commitment to California earlier this week.

Petraitis led Air Force in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks during the season that saw the Falcons finish with a record of 9-22 – their worst full season since 2001 – and end with a losing streak of 16 straight games in Mountain West play. As cadet athletes are eligible to transfer until the start of their junior years according to Academy rules, both players have made significant decisions regarding their future paths.
