The theme for the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace 2024 is “Sport for the Promotion of Peaceful and Inclusive Societies.” This global theme highlights the transformative power of sport for social change, especially in the face of numerous challenges that the world currently faces.
To contribute towards IDSDP, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) supports various projects and initiatives through Olympism365. These initiatives use sport-based approaches to positively impact people’s lives in areas such as education, employment, sustainability, equality, inclusion, health, crime prevention, peace, and safety. Olympism365 also focuses on scaling new and innovative approaches to sport for development, including maximizing the positive social impact of esports and urban sports.
The IOC collaborates closely with over 35 organizations, including United Nations agencies, international development organizations, and the sport movement in more than 70 countries. Through these partnerships, the IOC aims to co-invest in community sport and social change projects, train and build the capacity of individuals and organizations to use sport for social good, generate research and insight to shape policy, and advocate for the role of sport and Olympism in society.
