Spring Bird Blitz at Troy Wetlands: Join the Geauga Park District on May 18th!

Geauga Park District to host ‘bird sit’ event in honor of World Migratory Bird Day

On May 18th, the Geauga Park District is hosting a “bird sit” event to celebrate World Migratory Bird Day. Nature enthusiasts are invited to come to Troy Wetlands and record all the birds they see and hear during this time. Participants can gather at the observation deck for as little or as long as they please between 6:30 and 11:30 a.m. to assist in tallying spring bird life with Naturalist Linda Gilbert.

Troy Wetlands currently holds the record for the highest number of bird species sighted in Geauga County, with 123 species, surpassing LaDue Reservoir. The park’s diverse habitats make it an ideal location for bird watching, and attendees should come prepared with appropriate clothing, a chair, binoculars, a camera, and other comfort items.

There is no registration required for this event, and participants can check the park district’s website for any weather-related updates. The event will take place at 18725 Claridon-Troy Road in Troy Township, and signs will be posted to guide participants to the observation deck. So if you’re interested in bird watching and want to be part of this exciting event, mark your calendars for May 18th!
