Streamlining Food Safety Standards: NNPH Launches New Temporary Permit System for Special Events Vendors

New Health Permit Introduced by NNPH for Temporary Food Establishments

The Northern Nevada Public Health (NNPH) is introducing a new temporary food establishment permit and online application system to streamline the permitting and inspection process for vendors operating at special events. This new system will make it easier for vendors to stay in compliance with food safety standards while providing convenience and accessibility.

Starting July 1, vendors who operate at more than five special events in a calendar year will have the option to use one permit for the entire year, rather than applying for a new permit for each event. This new permit type aims to provide convenience for operators while maintaining food safety standards. Kristen deBraga, Senior Environmental Health Specialist at NNPH, expressed satisfaction with the new permit and believes it will improve the overall process for vendors.

To apply for the permit, vendors must have a servicing area, such as a commercial kitchen with a valid county health permit. The application and payment for temporary food establishment permits can now be done online, offering vendors greater accessibility and efficiency. NNPH staff will also be hosting a public forum on May 7 to answer questions, provide information on common violations, and assist vendors in understanding the new system. The forum will be held at NNPH Conference Rooms A/B 1001 E. 9th Street, Building B, with a Zoom stream available for remote participation.

Overall, the new temporary food establishment permit and online application system by NNPH aims to simplify the process for vendors while ensuring the safety and compliance of food served at special events.
