Super-G and Downhill Champions Hold Leads as World Cup Training Sessions Canceled

World Cup finals cancel downhill training to preserve slope ahead of speed races

The men’s and women’s downhill training sessions at the World Cup finals in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Austria were canceled on Thursday. Although the sessions on Wednesday went as planned, high temperatures and the prediction of more rain led to the decision to cancel the trainings on Thursday in order to protect the slope before the upcoming speed races.

Lara Gut-Behrami, who has already won the women’s overall and giant slalom titles, holds a 69-point lead in the super-G standings. She also leads the downhill standings with a 19-point advantage over Sofia Goggia, who is unable to compete for the rest of the season after an injury in February. Venier is 68 points ahead of Goggia in second place. Marco Odermatt, another Swiss skier, has secured his third consecutive overall championship and giant slalom title weeks ago. He leads by 81 points in super-G standings and 42 points in downhill standings.

The cancellation of men’s and women’s downhill training sessions has shifted focus to upcoming races at World Cup finals in Saalbach-Hinterglemm. The decision was made to ensure that athletes could compete safely and that weather conditions did not pose a risk to their performance or safety during speed races. Despite cancellations excitement remains high as athletes prepare for remaining races with championships and standings on line. Competition promises to be intense as skiers vie for top honors in their respective disciplines.
