Superior Health Foundation Grants Spring Awards for 2024

The Superior Health Foundation recently held its 2024 Spring Grants Celebration, where it awarded over $200,000 in grants to various health-focused organizations. One of the recipients was the Negaunee Public Schools Garden Project, specifically for their Lakeview School Garden Growing Gardeners project. This grant will fund supplies for creating a healing garden within their garden, student learning areas, participation in the Negaunee Farmer’s Market, and a Fall Harvest Festival.

Sarah Weaver, Chair of the Negaunee Public Schools Garden Project, expressed her excitement about the $8,500 grant and the opportunities it will provide for students to learn hands-on gardening skills. She emphasized the importance of teaching children about planting seeds, growing plants, and the value of teamwork and collaboration through gardening.

Executive Director of the Superior Health Foundation, Jim LaJoie, highlighted the organization’s commitment to providing grants for indigent care and funding for those less fortunate who lack access to essential health services. LaJoie reflected on his 11 years of involvement with the foundation’s grant celebrations and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to work with such an impactful organization. He also revealed that he would be retiring from his position as executive director at this event.

The Superior Health Foundation has been awarding over $6 million in grants since 2012 and has had a significant impact on improving health outcomes in the community. The event was viewed as an opportunity to give back in alignment with the foundation’s core goals and values.
