Sustainable Cement Production: Moran Iron Works Awards Contract for Granulation Basins with SMS Group

Rogers City Welcomes Latest Eco-Friendly Technology | Updates on News, Sports, and Jobs

In a major development for the cement industry, Moran Iron Works (MIW) has announced the award of a contract with SMS group for the fabrication of two granulation basins. These high-value and quality basins are essential components in SMS group’s process for producing a superior-quality, low carbon emission replacement for traditional Portland-style cement.

The granulation basins, each weighing 164,000 pounds and standing 59 feet high and 21 feet in diameter, are part of a project that began in January 2024. They will be transported via the High-Wire Corridor to Port Calcite in Rogers City, where they will be loaded onto a barge for shipment to their final destination on the Great Lakes.

This new technology offers a sustainable solution for the cement industry by providing a high-quality and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional cement production methods. By utilizing these granulation basins, the industry can significantly reduce its carbon emissions and contribute to a cleaner environment.

“We are proud to be part of this innovative project with SMS group,” said [Name], CEO of MIW. “The fabrication of these granulation basins represents a step forward in green technology for the cement industry, providing a more sustainable and environmentally friendly solution for cement production.”
