New research from the Swing State Project reveals that President Joe Biden could face challenges on Election Day due to dissatisfaction with his handling of the economy and concerns about the cost of living. According to the poll, 60% of voters disapprove of Biden’s economic policies, with 73% citing the cost of living and inflation as their top concerns. This contradicts Biden’s claims about building the economy from the middle and bottom.
The Swing State Project is a coalition between nonpartisan organizations, including the Cook Political Report, Democratic polling firm BSG, and Republican polling firm GS Strategy Group. The poll suggests that voters are evaluating the economy based on different factors than those highlighted by the Biden administration. While federal unemployment and stock market trends are still significant issues, rising costs of living and inflation are considered more important by a majority of voters.
Among those surveyed, 54% believe that the cost of living is an accurate indicator of economic strength, while 51% view inflation as a weak aspect of the economy. In contrast, only 6% selected the stock market as a key economic marker, with 13% choosing low unemployment and 9% picking household income as important indicators. Data for this poll was gathered from 3,969 voters in battleground states such as Wisconsin, North Carolina, Nevada, Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, and Pennsylvania from May 6 to May 13.
Despite these challenges for President Biden on Election Day in swing states like these seven states mentioned above where Donald Trump leads him by four percentage points according to this new poll conducted by Swing State Project , there’s still time for him to turn things around if he can present a clear plan for addressing these issues effectively before November.
