Tesla Prepares to Unveil Optimus Gen 2: The Future of Robotics with Improved Mobility and AI

In 2025, Tesla is set to release Optimus Gen 2, a humanoid robot with enhanced capabilities. The new model boasts improved mobility in the neck and hands, along with sensors in the fingers for handling delicate objects with varying pressure levels. This second generation can walk 30% faster, maintain better balance, and has reduced weight by 10 kg without sacrificing functions.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced that while Optimus currently performs simple factory tasks, new abilities are being tested in the lab. The ultimate goal is for the robot to be able to perform more useful tasks by the end of the year. Despite this ambitious timeline, Musk acknowledges that it may be subject to change and uncertainty.

Optimus features a human-like shape, integrated cameras for monitoring, and a powerful artificial intelligence system akin to Tesla’s autonomous cars. The robot has a 2.3 kWh battery and 40 electromechanical joints for enhanced mobility. It can lift loads up to five kilograms with a single arm, transport up to 25 kilos, and lift dead weights up to 75 kilos.

Apple is exploring domestic robot development, Amazon focuses on home robots working with Alexa, and Boston Dynamics continues to enhance its humanoid robot Atlas.
