Tesla Recalls Nearly 4,000 Cybertrucks over Faulty Accelerator Pedal

Cybertruck Recall: Tesla Addresses Accelerator Pedal Stickiness

Tesla is recalling nearly 4,000 of its Cybertrucks due to an accelerator pedal that can stick in place when pressed down. The cause of the issue is the use of soap during component assembly which added lubricant to the pad on the accelerator pedal and resulted in reduced retention of the pad to the pedal.

Tesla has not disclosed how many Cybertrucks it has produced but has mentioned that production is gradually increasing for the vehicle which had its first deliveries in late November. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that the recall impacts all Model Year 2024 Cybertruck vehicles manufactured between November 13, 2023, and April 4, 2024, which includes 3,878 trucks currently on US roads.

According to documents from the NHTSA, the accelerator pedal pad may dislodge when high force is applied, causing the pedal to become trapped in the interior trim above it. This issue arose due to workers at Tesla’s factory in Texas using soap to aid in the assembly of the pad onto the accelerator pedal. Social media and online discussions initially raised concerns about this problem.

The NHTSA has contacted Tesla for more information on the matter. Unlike most Tesla recalls that are fixed through software updates, this one will need owners to bring their Cybertrucks to service centers for a repair, which will be done at no charge. Tesla, which recently announced layoffs, has not commented on the recall yet.
