The Brownells Story: Recognizing Family-Owned Craftsmanship with Senator Joni Ernst’s Small Business of the Week Award

Small Business of the Week Named by Ernst,…

As a journalist, I have rewritten the article as follows:

In recognition of their commitment to crafting firearms, ammunition, and specialized gunsmithing tools for marksmen and outdoorsmen, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Ranking Member of the Senate Small Business Committee, has named Brownells of Poweshiek County her Small Business of the Week. This is just one part of her plan to recognize a small business in each of Iowa’s 99 counties throughout this Congress.

Brownells was founded in 1938 by Frank “Bob” Brownell II and is a third-generation, family-owned business based in Grinnell. The company has been selling gunsmithing tools and supplies for over 85 years, offering over 50,000 gun parts in the United States and worldwide. Their headquarters in Grinnell includes a warehouse, corporate offices, and a retail store. The Brownell family is also known for advocating for Second Amendment rights; Pete Brownell served as President of the National Rifle Association (NRA) from 2017 to 2018, while Frank Brownell received the NRA Golden Bullseye Pioneer Award.

Ranking Member Ernst praised Brownells for their emphasis on selection, service, and satisfaction, which has helped their business thrive both in Iowa and globally. She expressed pride in recognizing them as her Small Business of the Week and encouraged other small businesses across the state to continue striving for excellence.

Stay tuned as Ranking Member Ernst continues to recognize more small businesses across Iowa with her Small Business of the Week award.
