The annual social responsibility initiative, “The Greatest Weight Loss Challenge” 2024, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Community Protection, was recently held by Ras Al Khaimah Hospital. This competition aims to educate participants on the importance of weight loss and motivate them to achieve a healthier lifestyle.
In this year’s challenge, over 18,000 people from across the Emirates participated, with over half of them being residents of Ras Al Khaimah. The results revealed that the heaviest participating child weighed 178 kilograms and 72% of the students registered were overweight.
An award ceremony was held at the hospital’s main headquarters where 24 winners from individual categories, one winner from the institutions category, and two winners from the schools category were honored. On average, each participant reduced 9 kilograms of weight.
In the men’s physical challenge category, Pakistani Anwar Ali won first place by losing 30.2 kilograms and received 9,000 dirhams. In the women’s category, Mohsana Kalisam emerged as the winner after losing 23.3 kilograms of weight. The second and third places in both categories were also awarded prizes.
Dr. Reza Siddiqui, CEO of Ras Al Khaimah Hospital commended the dedication of the winners and expressed their commitment to supporting community health and quality of life. In future sessions, they plan to introduce a new category specifically for schools to promote healthy lifestyles among students from an early age.
Ras Al Khaimah College of Dental Sciences, Exemplary English school and student body mass index category emerged as winners in institutional teams, school staff and student categories respectively.
The competition spanned 12 weeks marking it as one of their largest sessions so far with a diverse group of participants under 40 years old falling within obesity category.
Overall “The Greatest Weight Loss Challenge” is an excellent initiative that raises awareness about obesity dangers while promoting healthy lifestyles among its participants in Ras Al Khaimah community.
