The Intimate Journey of Eagles Center Jason Kelce: A Sports Emmy-Nominated Documentary Examining his Final Season and Controversial Sibling Faceoff

Kelce documentary receives two Sports Emmy nominations

Philadelphia filmmakers Don Argott and Sheena Joyce have earned two Sports Emmy nominations for their documentary “Kelce,” which follows Eagles center Jason Kelce during the team’s Super Bowl run in the 2022 season. The film has become one of the most-watched documentaries on Prime Video since its release last fall.

Initially, Kelce approached Argott and Joyce to capture what he believed would be his final season. However, the Eagles’ unexpected postseason run resulted in a historic sibling faceoff between Kelce and his brother Travis. The documentary provided a personal look at Kelce’s family, including his wife Kylie, who was 38 weeks pregnant at Super Bowl LVII, and the athlete’s contemplation over his looming retirement.

When Kelce decided to announce his retirement in March, he contacted the filmmakers once again. They were there to capture his tearful day and empathize with his emotional farewell. The directors were sad to see him go but also found joy in capturing Kelce’s personality, such as when he jumped onto a flaming table after losing a bet the day before his retirement announcement.

The future of the footage captured by Argott and Joyce remains uncertain, but for now, they continue to follow Kelce during this period of transition. Joyce expressed gratitude at being included in Kelce’s life and mentioned that it felt like they had been making the Jason Kelce retirement documentary all along.

Kelce, beyond his football career, is still active in the New Heights podcast with Travis and may explore opportunities in commenting, coaching, or potentially farming. The 45th Sports Emmy Awards ceremony is set for May 21 at New York’s Lincoln Center where Kelce, Argott, and Joyce hope to secure wins in their nominated categories.
