The Lasting Impact of Mountain State College: Celebrating its Legacy and Influence on Our Community

News, Sports, and Job Opportunities at Mountain State Business College: A Tribute to the Past

After reading the article about Mountain State Business College, I couldn’t help but share my positive thoughts about the school. Although the article mentioned that the school was closing, it reminded me of the significant contribution it made to our community in the past.

Many young men returning from military service used their G.I. Bill benefits to attend Mountain State and study accounting and other business courses. Similarly, young women from small towns and rural areas came to Parkersburg to learn typing and shorthand at the school. Some of them even stayed with local families in exchange for helping with childcare and household tasks.

Over time, these graduates went on to hold leadership positions at banks, businesses, factories, and various agencies, making valuable contributions to the community and beyond. Personally, I have fond memories of riding my bicycle around the beautiful red brick building of Mountain State College, listening to the sounds of typewriters in the typing class.

It’s crucial that we recognize the impact and legacy of Mountain State College and its founder in shaping the lives and careers of many individuals in our region. Let us remember its glory days and significant influence on our community as we say goodbye to this beloved institution.
