The Sky-High Prices of Electricity Transmission: A Survey by Home Owners Reveals Almost Tenfold Differences in Fees Among Companies

Finnish residents experiencing significant variations in electricity bills: Monthly base fee capped at €40

According to Omakotiliitto, the transfer fees for electricity transmission vary significantly between companies. The survey conducted by the small house residents’ interest organization, Home Association, revealed that there are almost tenfold differences in electricity transfer fees among companies. The cheapest basic fee for the transfer ranges from EUR 4.70 at Kerava Energy to EUR 39.5 euros per month at Järvi-Suomen Energia, which is the most expensive.

The Energy Agency implemented a new supervision model last year to regulate electricity transmission prices, which has faced opposition from many transmission companies. However, almost half of the companies increased their prices since last year while two lowered the price and 37 kept it unchanged.

When comparing energy fees for electricity transmission, kilowatt-hour prices ranged from 1.69 cents at Rovakaira to 6.75 cents at Enontekiö Sähkö. Homeowners’ spending habits and living arrangements determine whether they focus more on the basic transfer fee or the energy fee on their electricity bill.

Chairman of the Association of Home Owners Ari Rehnfors expressed his union’s desire for more drastic measures to lower electricity transmission prices and ensure a fair control model in the market. Omakotiliito KTI Kiinteistötieto conducted the survey on electricity transmission prices.
