Tragic Accident on Howard University Campus: Condolences and Support for Samura’s Family

On April 11th, a fatal accident occurred in front of Cook Hall on Howard University’s campus, involving Dr. Kamal Agarwal, a professor in the School of Business, and Mohamed Samura, an 18-year-old freshman. According to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Agarwal was driving his car at high speeds on 6th Street NW and Fairmont when he failed to negotiate a left turn and collided with Samura.

Unfortunately, Samura passed away on April 15 due to injuries sustained in the crash. Agarwal has remained silent on the incident due to his poor health condition at this time. The School of Business Dean, Dr. Anthony Wilbon, expressed condolences for Samura’s death and stated that Agarwal is currently recovering from his injuries at home.

Following the tragic accident and loss of Samura, the School of Business organized meetings with Samura’s business orientation team, friends, faculty, and staff to offer support and guidance during this difficult period. The university has pledged full support to all those affected by the tragedy and encouraged anyone who needs it to seek professional help for grief counseling services.

Dr. Agarwal is known for specializing in information systems and network security within the School of Business at Howard University where he has been teaching for over 23 years.

It remains uncertain whether Agarwal will return to teaching at Howard after his recovery or if there will be any changes made to traffic signage around Cook Hall as a result of the car crash. The MPD investigation into the accident is ongoing as confirmed by both police department officials and a lawyer representing Samura’s family.

The community mourns the loss of young Mohamed Samura while praying for Dr. Kamal Agarwal’s speedy recovery from injuries sustained in this unfortunate incident.
