Tulsa Students Receive Boost in Mental Health Support with $9 Million Federal Grant”.

Tulsa Public Schools Increasing Accessibility to Mental Health Services

A $9 million federal grant has enabled students in the Tulsa area to have greater access to mental health resources within schools. This funding has allowed for more therapists, case managers, and behavioral health workers to be present in schools, providing essential support to students who need it.

Since January, Family and Children Services has expanded their services to 11 new schools in the area, including two charter schools in Tulsa and two schools in the Jenkins School District. The need for mental health support for students has never been greater, with many agreeing that schools are under-resourced and overburdened with responsibilities.

Family and Children Services aims to alleviate some of this strain by providing support for mental health, behavioral, emotional issues, suicidality, and more. By partnering with schools and collaborating with staff, they hope to provide the necessary support so that students can focus on their academic success.

Currently, Family and Children Services offers support and services to 65 schools in Green Country, with Tulsa Public Schools being one of their major partners. Having mental health resources available on-site during the school day is crucial for fostering well-being and creating safe, supportive environments for students to thrive.
