Grandits Fashion Retailer Bounces Back from Bankruptcy

In January, a company with three branches filed for bankruptcy, owing a total of 1.9 million euros to 87 creditors. The reasons cited for the bankruptcy included declines in sales due to the corona pandemic and decreasing frequencies due to high inflation. However, there is some positive news as one of the branches, a men’s outfitter on Alser Straße, has been taken over by the former branch manager, Anton Volemann. Together with an investor who had been a longtime customer of the company, Volemann bought the business from the insolvency estate to continue running it independently. Unfortunately, the other two branches on Nussdorfer Straße and Rotenthurmstraße remain closed.

Volemann, known as “Mr. Toni” to his regular customers, had worked at the company for 37 years, with 25 of those years spent managing the Alser Straße branch. He decided to take over the store as he felt it was the only viable option for him, stating that he lives for the business.
