UAW Union Votes to Authorize Potential Strike at Stellantis Warren Stamping Plant Over Health and Safety Concerns

UAW Members at Warren Stellantis Plant Approve Strike for Health and Safety Issues

UAW Local 869, representing over 1,000 workers at Stellantis’ Warren Stamping Plant in Michigan, has voted to authorize a potential strike due to concerns about nonworking fans and bathroom sanitation. The vote does not guarantee a strike will occur but increases pressure during ongoing grievance negotiations.

The plant supplies parts to various plants across the United States, Canada, and Mexico that manufacture vehicles such as the Dodge Durango, Chrysler Pacifica, Ram trucks, Jeep Gladiator, Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, Wagoneer, and Grand Wagoneer.

In response to the union’s concerns about health and safety issues within the plant, Stellantis has stated that discussions with the UAW are still ongoing. While employees are currently working, the company remains committed to providing a safe work environment and resolving grievances raised by the union without causing a work stoppage.

UAW Local 869 President Romaine McKinney III emphasized the importance of addressing these health and safety issues to ensure that workers feel valued and respected in their workplace. Another member of the union shared her concerns about unsanitary conditions and oil leaks within the plant. She stressed that standing together was crucial in addressing these issues that impacted their livelihoods and well-being.
