Uncovering the Secrets Behind San Antonio Fiesta’s Food Safety: Keep Yourself and Community Safe during Celebrations

Metro Health inspectors prioritize safety at Fiesta food vendors

San Antonio’s Fiesta is back, bringing with it an array of delicious food and drinks for the community to enjoy. However, it’s crucial to prioritize your health and ensure that what you’re consuming is safe. A KSAT crew accompanied inspectors from the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District to see how they maintain food safety during Fiesta events.

Deborah Liu, an environmental health officer with Metro Health, highlighted the dangers of consuming unsafe food. She emphasized that even seemingly harmless food could pose a risk if it doesn’t meet temperature requirements. Inspectors closely monitor vendors at every Fiesta event to ensure that food is properly stored, vendors adhere to hygiene protocols, and there are enough handwashing and sanitation stations available.

If an inspector discovers any violations, vendors are given the chance to correct them immediately. Failing to comply could result in the vendor losing their permit and being shut down permanently. It’s essential for attendees to be vigilant and report any concerns about food safety by calling 311.

Fiesta is an excellent opportunity to celebrate and enjoy the community, but safety should always come first to ensure a fun and healthy experience for everyone involved. For more information and updates on Fiesta events, visit KSAT.com.
