Unified Sports on the Court: Jamal Murray Surprises Students and Encourages Inclusion

Jamal Murray makes unexpected appearance at unified basketball game for Colorado students

Jamal Murray, a star player for the Nuggets, surprised students at North Middle School on Tuesday by acting as a coach rather than a player during a unified basketball game against Aurora Hills Middle School. The game brought together students with and without disabilities to participate in school sports, promoting teamwork and inclusion.

During the game, Felipe Avalos displayed his impressive basketball skills with a huge smile on his face as he danced on the court. His brother, Johnathan Avalos, also participated in the game and expressed how much fun they were having together. Jamal praised Felipe’s abilities on the court and emphasized the importance of having fun and working together as a team.

The focus of the game was not on winning or losing but on enjoying the experience. Aurora Public Schools received a generous donation of $5,000 from UCHealth to support all unified sports in the district. Jamal matched the donation to further support the cause and inspire kids to give back. The donation will be used to purchase equipment for all unified sports in the district, benefiting students and continuing the spirit of teamwork and inclusion in school sports.

Jamal reflected on his participation in the game, stating that he wants to help inspire kids to give back and make a positive impact in their community. The unified sports program creates opportunities for students of all abilities to participate in school sports, promoting inclusivity and equality.
