Unleashing the Power of Science: Dr. Raven Baxter’s Journey to Inclusive STEM Education

From Dr. Raven the Science Maven to STEM Success: A Journey of Discovery and Innovation | Nebraska Today

On April 3rd at 3:30 p.m., Dr. Raven Baxter, also known as the Science Maven with a following of over 200,000, will be giving a talk at the Nebraska Union Swanson Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Trained as a molecular biologist and science educator, Baxter’s mission is to make science accessible to everyone, foster curiosity, and bridge the gap between complex scientific concepts and the general public. After gaining popularity with her hip-hop science videos, she started the Black in SciComm and Black in STEM Education movements. She now leads the Science Haven, a nonprofit organization focused on making science engaging for people of all backgrounds, regardless of their scientific knowledge.

During the event, Baxter will have an informal conversation with Jocelyn Bosley, research impact coordinator in the Office of Research and Economic Development. They will discuss Baxter’s journey in STEM, the challenges and opportunities for creating a more diverse and inclusive STEM community, and creative strategies for making science engaging and relevant to a wider audience. This event is sponsored by Nebraska EPSCoR with additional support from various departments such as School of Biological Sciences, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Department of Physics and Astronomy
