Unsigned NFL Free Agent Drew Claypool Attracts Interest from Canadian Football League’s Saskatchewan Roughriders

Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL secure exclusive negotiating rights with Chase Claypool

Drew Claypool, a former second-round pick of the Steelers in 2020, has been a free agent and hasn’t been signed during the current signing cycle. This has attracted interest from the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL who have added Claypool to their exclusive negotiating list. Although this doesn’t necessarily mean that Claypool is heading to Canada, the Roughriders have the first opportunity to sign him if he chooses to join the CFL.

Claypool began his career with great promise, scoring 11 total touchdowns and amassing 873 receiving yards as a rookie. However, his production declined in his second season, and he was eventually traded by the Steelers to the Bears for a second-round pick. After a brief stint with the Dolphins, he has struggled to find a new team in the NFL. Despite his early success, Claypool’s football fortunes have taken a negative turn in the last two seasons. It remains uncertain whether he will get another opportunity in the NFL after the draft or if he will have to wait for injuries to occur for a chance to showcase his talent once again.
