Iga Swiatek of Poland is the top seed and overwhelming favorite at the French Open, which will begin on Sunday and be broadcast live on NBC Sports and Peacock. Swiatek, the reigning champion at Roland Garros in 2020, 2022, and 2023, is looking to become the fourth and youngest woman in the professional era (since 1968) to win four French Open singles titles. The others who have achieved this feat are Chris Evert with seven titles, Steffi Graf with six, and Justine Henin with four.
If Swiatek succeeds in her quest for a fourth title, she will also become the first woman to win a fifth Grand Slam singles title since Maria Sharapova claimed her last at the 2014 French Open. The only active woman with more than four Slams is Venus Williams, who won seven titles from 2000 to 2008. Swiatek enters the tournament with a 12-match win streak after winning the two biggest clay-court titles this spring in Madrid and Rome.
In the second round of the French Open, Swiatek could potentially face Naomi Osaka, the only other four-time Grand Slam champion in the draw. Osaka returned to competition in January after giving birth in July 2023.
