USATF Reverses Decision, Will Send Team to World U20 Championships in Lima, Peru.

USATF Chooses to Field U20 World Team After Thoughtful Deliberation

In a recent press release, the United States Athletics Track and Field Association (USATF) announced that it has reversed its decision and will send a team to represent Team USA at the World U20 Championships in Lima, Peru. The championships will be held from August 26-31, 2024.

After consulting with World Athletics and the Local Organizing Committee in Lima, USATF received assurance that safety measures would be in place for the event. This led the organization to decide to field a team for the championships. USATF emphasized that the safety and well-being of its athletes, coaches, managers, and staff are top priorities. The organization will continue to closely communicate with all relevant stakeholders to ensure a successful and safe participation in the championships.

The full team announcement will be made after the USATF Under-20 Championships on June 12-13, 2024 in Eugene, Oregon. This decision marks a turnaround from USATF’s withdrawal from the 2021 World U20 Championships in Nairobi, Kenya due to safety concerns and COVID-19 pandemic reasons. Looking ahead, the U.S. will host the 2026 World U20 Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
