Valerie Kato Appointed Deputy Director for Department of Health: Bringing Unmatched Expertise and Skills to the Table

State Senate officially approves appointment of new Department of Health deputy director

We are thrilled to have Valerie Kato on board as the deputy director for the Department of Health. Kato’s appointment was approved by the state Senate, and we would like to express our gratitude for your support of the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

Prior to this appointment, Kato held the position of supervising deputy in the health division of the state attorney general’s office, as well as serving as a first deputy attorney general. With 17 years of experience in private practice, Kato brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her new role.

Kato earned her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C., and her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Dr. Fink expressed his confidence in Kato, stating that she brings valuable skills, leadership, and enthusiasm to the Department of Health. We are excited to see what she will accomplish in her new role!
