Van Hool on Brink of Bankruptcy: What it Means for Employees and Future of the Company

Van Hool, bus builder, declares bankruptcy leading to 1,600 job losses

Van Hool, a struggling bus manufacturer, is on the brink of bankruptcy next week with no additional financing secured for its recovery plan. Approximately 2,500 employees could potentially lose their jobs while waiting for a possible buyer to facilitate a restart, at least partially.

The management of Van Hool has reassured employees and workers that wages for services in March will be paid. The trade union front has confirmed this news, although the exact solution is still unclear. While a bankruptcy would impact severance pay and wages for March, management has stated that wages can be paid on April 3. This announcement has been met with relief by the unions and Flemish Minister of Economy Jo Brouns (CD&V), who are pleased that a solution has been found for the March wages.

As the company navigates this challenging situation, it is crucial for all parties involved to work together calmly and efficiently in the coming days. The future of Van Hool and its employees remains uncertain, but for now, efforts are being made to ensure that workers are not left without their deserved wages.
